International Paper (Memphis) has introduced a tearproof, child-resistant fold-over paperboard for blister packaging. Offered as an alternative to plastic clamshells, the Everest Safe-Pak blister packaging board has five times the tear resistance of current fold-over boards, the firm claims.
"This board offers superior printability, runability, and processability," explains Anna Thomas, marketing manager for International Paper's bleached board business. "Extensive testing demonstrates that it will provide increased throughput during converting and packaging operations. It has a reduced tackiness that inhibits the board from sticking to printing and converting equipment, a significant benefit for converters. It requires a shorter dwell time with lower heat than competitive fold-over heat-seal boards. This can be particularly sig-nificant for blister packaging of heat-sensitive pharmaceuticals."
