GMPs and Nutritional |
Enzymatic Therapy Inc. (Green Bay, WI), a dietary supplement and OTC pharmaceutical manufacturer, is proud that all its operations comply with the rigorous drug GMPs. “One of the things we do that a lot of [nutritional] companies don’t do is clean after every batch, so there’s never a chance that the previous batch is mixed with the next one,” says Cheryl Myers, director of product development.
The company takes the same pride in its packaging. It often outsources new packaging forms to vendors first to determine their success before making the investment to produce them in-house. One package that proved to be more popular than expected was a sample vial for Fiber Delights, a chewable fiber tablet. The vial, supplied by Tricor Braun, is an opaque polypropylene with a snap-top lid. “It was a temporary offering to get people to taste the product,” says Myers. “The containers were so popular. People wanted to carry them around.” The Fiber Delights are currently packaged in a large bottle. Customers are buying the bottles and refilling the vials so they can carry them in their purse or desk.
Myers believes that the nutritional GMPs are essential to the industry. “I’m grateful we’ve had GMPs in place because they’re serving us well now. Even though it’s tedious and time-consuming, [companies] should focus their efforts on them because they’re not going to go away.”
