Flexible Cartoners

Machines erect, load, and close cartons with speed and efficiency.

Advantage Case Packer
The easily accessible case packer has a compact footprint but is capable of handling a large case size within its small frame. The Advantage handles most end- and side-load applications at speeds up to 25 cases per minute. The servo-driven top and bottom indexing shuttle-style transport system is simple, easy to maintain, ensures delicate case transport, and reduces maintenance time and noise as chains are not required. Changeovers can be accomplished in 15 minutes or less. A new Advantage case-packer model specification sheet is available in hard copy, e-mail, and CD formats. The specification sheet has a clean layout and includes feature and benefit highlights on the front side. The back has technical details, along with applications and a floor-plan drawing of the machine. MGS Machine Corp., Maple Grove, MN; 763/425-8808; www.mgsmachine.com

Walking-Beam Device
A servo-driven walking-beam device on the company’s robotic cartoners and trayloaders allows cartons or trays to be accurately erected, loaded, and closed at different rates of speed. Size changeover requires no change parts and is done with the touch of a button. The design uses two parallel beams—one stationary and one moving—and only one servo drive. Suction cups at different positions on the walking beam are programmed to turn on or off to hold or release cartons and trays at the desired location. Minimal space is required because erecting, loading, and closing are all done within the same frame. Schubert Packaging, Addison, TX; 972/233-6665; www.schubertpackaging.com

PC-Controlled Cartoner
A series of PC-controlled cartoning machines has been designed to deliver higher productivity and greater flexibility through toolless changeovers, a positive carton-erecting system, and a quick-change modular assembly for glue-to-tuck conversions. A closed drive system that is unaffected by the surrounding conditions ensures smooth, efficient operation in any environment. The user-friendly HMI/MMI touchscreen interface can be provided with online troubleshooting diagnostics, operator and parts manuals, and remote reprogramming capabilities through the PC. A variety of cartoning machine models are available. Continuous-operation models SC4 and SC6 provide outputs of up to 450 cartons per minute. An intermittent series of cartoners is also available with outputs of up to 120 cartons per minute. IWKA PacSystems, Fairfield, NJ; 973/227-5575; www.iwkusa.com

MA255
A continuous-motion horizontal cartoner has been developed for ease of operation. All functions take place in clearly visible, easily accessible areas. Operating diagnostics are displayed on an eye-level control panel, and changeovers are easy and fast. Maintenance is minimum, and sealed oil baths keep the main drive movements quiet and vibration free. The sturdy balcony construction keeps work areas separate from mechanical parts in compliance with GMP standards. All components are protected by safety stops in case of a jam or other malfunction. The MA255 can reach speeds of up to 200 cartons per minute and features a new carton-erection system. An innovative tilting arm combined with a mechanical prebreak allows erected cartons to be placed directly into transport-chain lugs. There is automatic rejection of products missing or incomplete cartons. Marchesini Packaging Machinery Inc., 973/575-7445; mpmagent@mpmagent.com.
