Hiemstra Product Development LLC (San Francisco) recently developed the Cardioblate Navigator tissue dissector for Medtronic Inc. (Minneapolis). The resulting cardioblation device enables the use of a guidewire to safely introduce a soft catheter behind the pulmonary veins, which significantly cuts down procedure time. Improved tactile feedback greatly reduces the risks associated with blindly dissecting the pericardial reflections. The finger-like curve of the distal tip is rigid and can be locked in place at any position between straight and fully articulated.
