In early March, Luminex Corp. (Austin, TX) completed its acquisition of genetic testing company Tm Bioscience Corp. (Toronto). Tm Bioscience developed the first multiplexed human disease genotyping test (for cystic fibrosis) to be cleared as an IVD for diagnostic use in the United States and has a number of tests in development.
Cytyc Corp. (Marlborough, MA), a manufacturer of surgical and diagnostic products targeting women's health and cancer diagnostics, has completed its acquisition of Adiana Inc. (Redwood City, CA), a company that is developing a nonincisional alternative to tubal ligation for permanent contraception for women. Cytyc will initially pay $60 million for the purchase, and will add milestone and earn-out payments over the next four years up to a total of $215 million.
In February, Siemens Medical Solutions (Malvern, PA) opened a new research facility in Los Angeles that is dedicated to the development of molecular imaging biomarkers. The company reports that the facility is its latest step toward integrating its in vivo and in vitro imaging diagnostics capabilities.
