Transport Pharmaceuticals Inc. (Framingham, MA) has appointed Sean Moran as its chief financial officer. Moran joins the company after having served as CFO of Sontra Medical Corp. (Franklin, MA), a transdermal drug delivery and diagnostics company. Transport Pharmaceuticals is focused on the convergence of medical devices and therapeutics for topical treatment of dermatological conditions.
Medtronic Inc. (Minneapolis) has appointed H. James Dallas as senior vice president and chief information officer, a role in which he will be responsible for implementing the company's information technology strategies on a global basis. He will also join Medtronic's executive committee and operating committee. Prior to joining Medtronic, Dallas was vice president and CIO of Georgia Pacific, where he spent 22 years.
St. Francis Medical Technologies (Alameda, CA) has appointed Chester Huang as leader of its Asia-Pacific and South and Latin America strategic marketing and sales efforts. Previously director of sales and marketing for DePuy Spine Inc. (Raynham, MA), a Johnson & Johnson company, Huang has more than 12 years' experience in orthopedic marketing and sales in the Asian market.
Radiation therapy product manufacturer North American Scientific Inc. (Chatsworth, CA) has elected Wilfred E. Jaeger, MD, and Roderick A. Young to its board of directors. Jaeger and Young were nominated by Three Arch Partners (Portola Valley, CA), which recently invested $10 million as part of a $24 million private placement of the company's common stock.
Bob Dockendorff has joined ultrasound systems manufacturer U-Systems Inc. (San Jose) as vice pre-sident of sales. Most recently, Dockendorff held sales executive positions at Civco Medical Solutions (Kalona, IA), a manufacturer of radiotherapy systems. Prior to that, he held various sales positions at Philips Medical Systems (Andover, MA) and ATL Ultrasound, which merged with Philips in 1998.
Given Imaging Ltd. (Yoqneam, Israel) announced that Gavriel D. Meron, the company's executive vice chairman, has resigned to pursue other interests. He was appointed to the position in April after serving as president, chief executive officer, and a member of the company's board of directors since 1998, when he cofounded the company. Given Imaging is developing a line of miniature video capsules for the detection of gastrointestinal tract disorders.

Smith & Nephew Inc. (Memphis) has named Laura Whitsitt as vice president of research and development for the company's orthopedic reconstruction division. During her 18 years of service at Smith & Nephew, Whitsitt has designed two orthopedic implant systems, invented four patented products, contributed to the initial development of national testing standards for spinal devices, and led an acquisition team to obtain distribution rights to joint fluid therapy products, the company reports.
J. Mark Hattendorf has been appointed to the board of directors of CryoCor Inc. (San Diego). He will also serve as chairman of CryoCor's audit committee. A 30-year veteran in the fields of accounting, finance, and business management, Hattendorf currently serves as chief financial officer of EWI Holdings (San Diego).
Laparoscopic systems manufacturer Viking Systems Inc. (San Diego) has appointed Donald E. Tucker as its president, CEO, and a member of the company's board of directors. With more than 25 years' experience in executive-level management, Tucker recently retired as a partner and senior executive at global consulting firm Accenture, where he served as managing partner for the company's medical products, diagnostics, and devices industry segments. In addition, Viking Systems appointed Gregory M. Decker as its new chief financial officer. Previously CFO of Sensoria Corp. (San Diego), Decker replaces Joseph Warrino, who has accepted the newly established position of vice president and general manager of operations.
Radlink Inc. (Redondo Beach, CA), a manufacturer of digital medical imaging solutions, has elected Peter J. Julien, MD, to its board of directors. Julien is currently director of thoracic imaging at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center (Los Angeles) and was named Cedars-Sinai Physician of the Year in 2005. During his more than 25-year career there, he has also served as associate director of radiology and director of mammography.

Following a 20-year career with the company, Thomas N. McCausland announced his retirement as president and CEO of Siemens Medical Solutions USA (Malvern, PA). He is succeeded by Heinrich Kolem, PhD, president of the company's magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) division. Kolem joined Siemens in 1989 and has held positions in areas ranging from marketing to engineering. In addition, Tom Miller, president of the healthcare information technologies (IT) division at Siemens Medical Solutions, has joined the company's group board. During his 15-year tenure with Siemens, Miller has headed the MRI division, as well as the U.S. sales and service organization of Siemens Medical Solutions. Replacing him as healthcare IT division president is Janet Dillione, formerly chief operating officer for the division.
Inion Oy (Tampere, Finland), which specializes in the development of biodegradable medical implants, has appointed Seppo Nevalainen as general manager in Tampere, where he will be responsible for all of the company's operations. Having spent the past 19 years in the medical device industry, Nevalainen was most recently a general manager for GE Healthcare. In addition, Mike Goekbora has been appointed senior director of product development at Inion. He has spent the last 13 years working in the medical device field, most recently as senior research engineer for Stryker Orthopaedics (Kalamazoo, MI).
