At the annual distributors' meeting of Z-Medica LLC (Newington, CT), company founders Francis X. Hursey and Bart Gullong introduced new leadership for the company. Raymond J. Huey was named chief executive officer, and Jeffrey L. Horn was named chief operating officer. Hursey retains the role of president. The additions are a response to rapid adoption during 2004 of the firm's breakthrough hemostatic product, QuikClot, which resulted in a 400% increase in revenues over 2003. An engineer by training, Huey will be responsible for setting the company's strategic direction, expanding the company's product line for in-hospital use, and putting in place world-class processes to accommodate growth. Horn began his career as a nuclear design engineer, and has spent subsequent years in the biochemical and medical instrumentation fields. He will be responsible for developing global business opportunities and relationships, and for delivering on the company's vision and mission.
