Invacare's new top-of-the-line custom power wheelchair, the Storm Series TDX, is a rolling package of advanced technology. It is designed to meet the diverse needs of individuals who require powered mobility while staying within Medicare reimbursement levels.
The TDX is a result of the most intensive market research ever done by Invacare, according to Hymie Pogir, the company's vice president of marketing for custom power wheelchairs. "We literally spent thousands of hours talking with consumers and rehab professionals to understand their real-world needs. They told us they were tired of having to compromise." The perfect chair, they said, would offer the highest degree of maneuverability and a smooth ride in an attractive design.

Maneuverability is especially important inside the home or workplace, where people spend most of their time. The TDX features a compact profile and innovative center-wheel-drive design that results in intuitive handling and the tightest turning radius possible—just 25 inches. Center-wheel drive has always meant lack of stability, but Invacare has addressed the issue with its patent-pending Stability Lock technology. A gear attached to the frame locks to an opposing gear any time stability begins to shift. This keeps the chair stable and under control, even on a downhill grade.
The disabilities of some power wheelchair drivers make it difficult for them to keep their chair moving on a true forward path, especially on slopes and uneven terrain. The True Track driving system available on the TDX utilizes internal sensors to enable the driver to maintain fine control with less effort. The TDX also provides an exceptionally smooth ride on bumpy roads, uneven sidewalks, and soft-surface park trails thanks to Invacare's patent-pending SureStep suspension, which automatically raises the front casters to step up and lowers them to step down.
With the Storm Series TDX, Invacare intends to retain its crown as the industry leader in sales and innovation.
